Princess September Summary

This is the story of Princess September. Once upon a time, there was a King of Siam. The King had an unusual thought about naming her children. When he had two daughters and he named them day and night. When he had two more daughters, he named them Spring, Autumn, Winter, and Summer. Soon, her wife gave birth to three more daughters. He changed his daughter’s name and kept on the name of weeks. More about Princess September.

After one year, he was blessed with two more daughters and this time, all of them were named by ‘Months’. The youngest of them was called Princess September. The King had a habit of giving gifts to others during his birth anniversary.

One year, on his birthday, he gave his daughters beautiful green parrots in a beautiful golden cage. One morning, the Princess September found her parrot lying dead. She burst into a flood of tears and nothing could comfort her. While she was lying on the bed, a little bird entered her room and sang a beautiful song. She sang about lakes, golden fishes, and willow trees.

It told the princess that it was willing to be with her in place of the dead parrot. She took the bird to her sisters and showed it to them. The King and Queen felt happy to hear its sounds. The bird pleaded to the Princess to send itself free but the Princess cared more for its safety. The bird did not feel like singing. The next morning, the Princess found the bird lying as if it was dead. The bird told Princess, “If I could not fly and sing, I may die!” Princess granted the little bird its freedom. The bird sang everyday and she became beautiful.
