1. Pay Attention to Baby’s Communication

Even the newborns know how to communicate. However, it is not in our language but forms of signs. Watch your baby’s movements. Just as your baby talks, your baby gives signs of tiredness as well. The baby may begin to fuss, and for older babies, they may even yawn. Put them to sleep as soon as possible to avoid baby’s fussing and crying.

2. Bedtime Routine

A parent may create a baby’s routine or ritual of falling asleep in the night or during the days. The naptimes in the days can be as per the child’s needs. Gradually the times will shorten and give the parent more time to the child.

Plus, it would do well for your child to have a ritual before you put them to sleep. This will keep your baby’s activities in check and will allow your baby to fall asleep on their own as they grow.

3. Keep Things in Motion

Newborns usually fall asleep to the movements. They like being lulled, and the kids fall asleep almost instantly the moment you start lulling them. Keep the kids moving, and they will fall asleep in no time!

4. Choose a Song

Although many parents choose a lullaby to put their kids to sleep, it is advised that parents sing some lullabies to their kids in their voices. The babies are already familiar with their voices; being lulled to sleep by the very same voice will help your child to fall asleep faster.

5. Keep Day times and Night time Separate

Newborns do not understand day and nights; they work on their natural instincts. However, if you train your newborn, you will see some differences. If you keep your child’s afternoon nap –times lively and loud. This will help your child to have a light sleep. Additionally, keep your child’s surroundings during the night time quiet and calm so that the child knows that it is night time.

6. Be Patient and Work Hard

Even babies need their beauty sleep, and at times at your expense. Keep doing what you are doing and be patient. The child will soon get used to the new environment and will change according to the parent’s sleep-cycle.

7. Go Easy on the Caffeine

This is for the mothers who are still breastfeeding. The mother’s milk will have traces of caffeine if the mother consumes caffeine. Even the slightest change the mother’s consumption of caffeine will affect your child’s sleep. Caffeine has elements which stimulate the brain cells, which will lead your child to be awake for the most of the night. So, as long as a mother is breastfeeding, eliminate caffeine from your diets.

8. Allow your Child to Fall Asleep

This can be practiced with older babies. When the baby reaches four to six months, most babies start to settle on their own and fall asleep. From this time onwards, the baby hardly ever wakes up during the night time.

9. Give the baby a Soft Toy

Again, this is for the older babies, when your child is older about six months, you can give your child a soft security toy. This toy acts as a safety measure for the child, as the child feels that there is somebody sleeping next to them.

With kids and their sleeping patterns, make sure that as a parent you are extremely vigilant. Observe your child and your child’s movements.  Focus on creating a new rhythm or a pattern for your child right from the morning until the sleep time so that your child can begin to understand day and night time periods.
