Bingo Song
Bingo Song is a spelling song for little children of unknown origins. It is also known as “Bingo Was His Name-O”.This song’s first appearance on this folk song can be dated back to the 17th century and first recorded version can be found in “The Humming Bird” which is a collection of songs for children. Additional versions of this song are sung by omitting the first letter sung in the previous verse, which is replaced with a clap.
Since it is a counting song, it has repetitive lines that omit words by replacing them with claps. Children especially love this song. “Little Bingo”, “A Franklyn’s Doggie” and “The Farmer’s Dog Leapt o’er the Stile” are the various titles this song was known with. There have been many versions of this song, some versions repeat the lines of the verses and some versions omit the repetitive lines.
