Ring Around the Rosie

Ring around the Rosie is sung as a game for children. They form a ring around a person, who stands in the middle and sing the rhyme. Then, in the end, they stop or courtesy and whoever is the last person to do is, is penalized.

Although not confirmed, but there have been speculations about this nursery rhyme to be indicating to the Black Plague in Europe. Some other speculations say that it has pagan origins. You may also like to read, Hot Cross Buns Song.

Ring around the rosie,

Pocket full of posies,

Ashes, ashes, we all fall down.

Feel the lovely sunshine

Flowers all around

Hop a little hop right off the ground

Feel the lovely sunshine

Flowers all around

Jump a little jump right off the ground

Ring around the rosie,

Pocket full of posies,

Ashes, ashes, we all fall down.

Ring around the rosie,

Pocket full of posies,

Ashes, ashes, we all fall down.

Feel the lovely sunshine

Flowers all around

Hop a little hop right off the ground

Feel the lovely sunshine

Flowers all around

Jump a little jump right off the ground.

Summary:

In this poem, we see a group of little children holding hands and running around in circular motion around a person. As they run in circles, they sing the poem. They sing and jump around, still going in circles. Singing about the lovely warm sunlight and beautiful flowers, they keep going. Then finally, they end it with a courtesy.

A little something for the parents:

Poems should be an integral part of your child’s growing process as they make their lives more colorful and vibrant by adding a variety of rich experience. So, every child should be encouraged to read more and more poems.
