This is one of the amazing short fables for children. Once upon a time, there lived a young hare in a forest. This little hare loved to make friends. And this hare did have many friends. She befriended many beasts in the forest she lived in. From small to massive bulky beasts were all her friends. "I have so many friends," the hare used to think, "I am so glad there are many people in this forest that like me." As time passed by, the hare grew immensely proud of her many friends. Having too many friends pleased the hare, for she counted happiness not by quality but by quantity. There was a pack of hounds running in the forest and they were hunting hares. Scared, and desperate for help, the hare ran to her friends. She went to the horse first. "You are fast and have ample space on your back, please carry me to some safe place." The horse, however, refused. "I have other important work," was what he said. Next, she ran to the buffalo. "Please help me," she pleaded. "I would, but I have prior arrangements." Then he added that the goat might be of some help. So, the hare ran to the goat. "Please, you have to help me," she cried. But the goat said, "I am small and my back is awkward. You might hurt yourself." After this, the hare ran to the ram. "Will you help me?" she asked. "I would like to decline," he replied. "You see, I do not like to interfere in other's matters. And for your information, hounds have been known to eat sheep as well. So, ask for help some other day."
